When you think of distance in golf, most golfers think swing faster, and that is true, but what they’re missing is the producer of power, which is your core. The stronger you can get it, the faster your swing will be, but with much less actual effort.

The modern golf swing is one that is more connected. What I mean is, think of your body and arms as one. So the faster you can rotate your body, the arms will come through tenfold faster. Kind of the the dog wagging the tail.

The beauty of this technique is it’s much easier to have a consistent golf swing because you are removing timing. When you are an arm swing, it is very difficult day-in-and-day-out to time your arms to reach impact the same every time. Some days will be on, others will be off.

Watch This Core Exercise For Golf Video

See how simple that exercise is? All you need is a pair of dumbbells, which will cost you maybe ten bucks, and you can start doing this core movement with resistance right away.

By watching this video, you might not realize it, but your are really working your abs. The twisting motion holding weight is forcing your abdominals to work harder, and in return they will get stronger, specific to the motion of your golf swing.

Golf is rotational, so the majority of exercises (and stretches) you do should be in a turning motion. It doesn’t make sense to do for instance a regular stomach crunch, like we did back in high school.

Instead, do a crunch with a twist. Or, better yet, get in your golf posture and twist with dumbbells like in the golf video above, or, just hold one handweight in front of you and do the same movement.

Use A Medicine Ball To Improve The Strength Of Your Abs

Another great training tool is a medicine ball. They have become very popular, and can be found in most sports stores, and even Target.

Look at the exercise in the picture below.

I call this a golf medicine ball rotational exercise for your core.

Get in your golf posture.

Hold medicine ball like you would a golf club.

Rotate it back in forth, in about a short motion.

The key is to not stop until you’ve done 20 back and forth.

You’ll feel a good burn in your midsection.

If you’re looking for a complete program of exercises for your core, you’re in luck.

One of the most inexpensive pieces of golf exercise equipment is a dumbbell. There are literally dozens and dozens of exercises you can do using dumbbells that will help you hit longer golf drives. You can do these simple exercises in just minutes a day right in the comfort of your home.

Look at the picture to your left. I’m in my golf posture, doing a backswing with one arm. This will strengthen and stretching the back of that arm to produce a bigger backswing, and stronger recoil of that shoulder coming back down.

You can get them for around .50 a pound, so a couple of pairs will set you back $20-$30. Not bad for your golf fitness home gym eh? They can be found at your local fitness equipment store like Sports Authority, or even at Target.

An additional benefit for using dumbbells is the ability to mimic your golf swing. When you are on a machine in the gym, that machine is not golf specific, and it only works one muscle group. In the golf swing, all your muscles are used in a very dynamic way, so trying to isolate these specific motions in your swing and using dumbbells is a very effective approach.

One of the biggest factors in hitting longer drives is a better shoulder turn. Simple golf exercises like the one below will quickly improve you backswing range of motion, producing a higher clubhead speed, that results in much longer golf drives.

It’s very important to work on your flexibility, as a looser muscles creates more speed and power. That’s where senior golfers are really affected. Most of them are not currently exercising, and have lost a tremendous amount of flexibility, specific to their golf swing.

If you feel I’m speaking to you, then you must start implementing simple golf exercises and stretches like the one below, to stop the physical decline you’re going through, and actually improve it, to experience longer golf drives.

All it takes is a couple of minutes of day doing golf exercises at home, and you’ll be amazed at how much better you’re hitting the golf ball.

I call this Seated Twist On Ball, and I’m using an exercise ball and a medicine ball. If you don’t have a medicine, just use a single dumbbell weighing around 5-8 lbs.

Do this a total of 10 times, rest and repeat. See…another simple golf exercise you can do in your home in just a couple of minutes a day.

Golfers like everyone else are busy people. That’s why golf exercises at home is a good idea. They’re convenient, quick, easy, and can make a dramatic impact on your golf swing. This saves you time on driving to a gym, let alone saving you money on not paying for a gym membership.

When I put together all of my golf exercise products (ebooks, DVDs, books), I made a point to create programs that were to be done at home with minimal and very affordable equipment. Taking up only about 70 square feet of room, allowing you to do it in your living room, den, office, or even your bedroom.

Here’s a perfect example (see picture below) of a golf exercise you can do in your home, that will have a profound impact on your golf swing.

I call it the Seated Twist (Rotation) Golf Stretching Exercise

This is a very simple stretch you can do while you’re in front of your computer; even watching the television; or while you’re sitting in the golf cart before or during a round.

This is a perfect example of a simple golf stretching exercise that takes 15 seconds out of your day, but if you did it daily, you’d see a tremendous improvement in your backswing and through swing range of motion.
